When you take a treatment for aesthetic enhancement, the last thing you want is an additional mark on the beauty factor. But, unfortunately, we do come across it. Many cosmetic procedures are surgically invasive – and this brings the risk of scarring.
But what about hair transplantation? Does it scar? Is the scar permanent? Can you get rid of any resulting scar? Can you avoid scarring? Let’s get to it – one by one.
Does Hair Transplantation Scar?
Surgeries scar – you cannot escape that. But when it comes to hair transplantation, the scarring is minimal.
In the FUE technique, the donor area will form tiny scars at the punch-areas. The scars will be like tiny dots, not more than 1 mm in diameter. The scars will be invisible unless you are shaving off your scalp hair.
Strip Surgery, on the other hand, will leave a more visible scar but still very slim. Again, this scar can be hidden with your hair growth. But if your hair is very thin, this scar might be visible through your hair.
Is The Scar Permanent?
Scars tissues are permanent. But over time, major portions of a scar becomes invisible. A scar takes one year to mature fully. Only after that time, you will be able to judge the entire extent of the scar. Generally, the remnant scars of a hair transplant surgery are so small that they become negligible within a year. Hence, traditionally, you need not worry about scarring.
When Should You Worry About Hair Transplant Scar?
Scarring becomes a problem when you grow old. With age, your skin starts sagging. At that point, the scars which were invisible earlier starts becoming visible. This is much like how tattoos become ill-shaped as your skin starts sagging. This is only a natural process. This phenomenon can be delayed if you take good care of your skin.
Scarring can also become an issue if you have taken a badly done surgery. If you have done a surgery with a novice surgeon or from a beautician instead of a qualified and experienced trichologist, the risk of scarring stay high.
How Can You Erase The Scar?
Scar Removal Surgery: For a badly done strip surgery, that leaves a big scar, a correction surgery can be done to reduce the scarring to some extent. In such a surgery, the scar tissue is scraped off the sink around is stretched and stitched together minutely so that the new scar is an improvement on the previous scar. But even then, there will be some visible scar.
Micro-pigmentation: A micro-pigmentation is a tattoo technique that can be used to hide scars. In this technique, the scarred area is linked with a permanent ink in a 3D pattern. It creates the illusion of real hair resembling the colour and orientation of it.
